Let the First Birthday Begin!

Gram and Grumpy came to visit for Mother's Day weekend and since BabySlimJim turns one on Wednesday we decided to start the celebrating early!

He wasn't too excited at first, preferring this cat toy to opening presents.

But it didn't take long before he realized what he was supposed to do.

And no birthday celebration would be complete without some sort of (weird gluten, dairy, egg, soy free) cake and singing!

The Loose Tooth

For a few weeks MiniM.E.'s top tooth has been pretty wiggly. Since her first two wiggly teeth were pulled at the dentist, I'm counting this as her first real wiggly tooth. It has been exciting for her because her two best friends had the same wiggly tooth.

HAD.

As of yesterday, MiniM.E.'s friends' teeth had fallen out and she was the only one left with her awful wiggly tooth.

And finally today, it came out!

Enjoying the Summer Weather

Today we spent a lot of time at the park between our morning at the library and our afternoon at our music class.

Pre-K Nature Hour at Wilton Wildlife

Today we spent the morning learning about amphibians at Wilton Wildlife. We hunted in their pond for living things like nymphs and bugs and snakes and frogs, made a craft and had a snack.

Yard Work Weekend

We love our house and we have a great yard. But we are not fans of yard work. Last weekend and this weekend we spent a lot of time doing spring cleaning, cutting in mulch beds, and spreading mulch. We had some great help!

First Beach Day of the Season

Today was in the 80s so the kids and I headed up to Moreau Lake to spend some time playing on the beach.

First we searched for salamanders. The girls put their suits on but there was still ice on the lake a couple weeks ago so the water was bitingly cold and we could only wade a bit.

 Then we dug holes and moats in the sand.

Last year BabySlimJim was still a baby during beach season, so all this sand was a new experience. There was a lot of tasting. Yum!

When we were done at the beach we stopped at the playground for a while.

 And no first day at the beach is complete without ice cream from the Dairy Haus.

Big News for BabySlimJim: Food!

BabySlimJim has multiple food protein intolerance so he has been on special formula since 4 months or so and hasn't been able to eat any solid food other than rice since then. Because we're coming up on his first birthday we decided it's time to try again in hopes that his immature digestive system is improving and can handle more food.

Good news! He is eating fruits and veggies, rice, oats, turkey and we've started replacing formula with hemp milk.

It's a messy adventure!

Now that he knows about food, he has figured out the best place to find snacks at our house.
